About IGCAR Kalpakkam, Chennai:
The Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) is one of the premier nuclear research centres in India. Besides, it is also the greatest establishment of DAE (Department of Atomic Energy). The centre situated in Kalpakkam, 80 Km south of Chennai. IGCAR’s primary goal is to carry out a wide-ranging, multidisciplinary programme of advanced engineering and scientific research. And the centre has nearly 2511 employees and staff.
IGCAR committed itself to environmental conservation and taking necessary actions to combat the issues. Thus, they have decided to monitor the air quality in their geographical area. To achieve this, they needed to assess the emission levels in their zone.
Challenges in IGCAR:
IGCAR is in Kalpakkam that is a town situated on the Coromandel Coast in Tamil Nadu. The place is known for Nuclear Plants. Furthermore, the project presented numerous challenges across various aspects. Firstly, Atomic Research centres have security issues for data transferring. Hence, the third-party data server included concerns. With it, restrictions on GSM and WiFi within the center’s premises posed challenges for data storage and security. Thus, they needed data storage with high security.
Likewise, The coastal location of Kalpakkam also presented challenges such as higher corrosion rates and limited power supply in certain areas. Air quality monitors work with a power supply but power is a challenge in a few locations in Kalpakkam. Thus, these problems needed to be covered:
- Third-party data server concern
- Restrictions on GSM or wiFi in premises
- Power challenge in some locations
- Coastal Region (High corrosion rate)
Application:
Prana Air the leading Air Quality Monitoring solution provider equipped them with top solutions. Accordingly, we provided IGCAR with state-of-the-art solutions for measuring and analyzing air quality data. We equipped them total number of 10 Ambient Air Quality monitors. These cutting-edge air quality monitors measure PM 10, PM 2.5, CO2, SO2, NO2, CO, Noise & O3.
Solutions:
Along with that, we provided them with effective and reliable solutions to monitor air quality. Hence, Prana Air equipped IGCAR with a Local Server using an Android TV, addressing third-party server concerns. Thus, the implementation of LoRa Alliance technology resolved data transmission issues through wireless technology.
Furthermore, we introduced Solar Panels to our devices for sufficient power supplies. With it, we specially made all metal items with GI materials to protect them from rusting. For data transferring, we made a special App for TV. It enables the data displaying, saving, and downloading options with USB. Now, IGCAR can make informed decisions to mitigate air pollution in their surroundings with the following solutions:
- Local server (Android TV turned into the local server).
- For Network: LoRa technology (Long Range).
- Introduced solar for power issues.
- Used GI materials for poles, Instrument housing, and other metal things.
- Special App for TV- Data display, saving, and downloading options (USB).
Conclusion:
In conclusion, we successfully installed 10 Ambient Air Quality Monitors in IGCAR Kalpakkam, Chennai. With it, we provided the best solution for all challenges. The installation completed with the support of The Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR). Thus, they can enhance their monitoring capabilities and gain valuable insights into the air quality in and around their facilities.
